Day 25/365: "Summer in My Kitchen" Print.

from $25.00

Day 25/365: "Summer in My Kitchen" Print. Each print is a high quality reproduction of an original artwork that is part of my 2026 year long project, "This Sweet Simple Existence", where I create daily small artworks of objects and scenes around me, thereby simply documenting the extraordinary in the ordinary joys of a simple life.

I remember when I was married and living in Cairo years ago, on a cold winter's day, a house guest who was staying with us for a few days, brought us crates of mandarins, oranges and strawberries to thank us for our hospitality. As I emptied the crates of luscious fruits onto my marbled countertop, and tried to figure out how to preserve them, I thought how lovely in the midst of Egypt's desert cold winter (citrus season being in full swing during this time), that it felt like a burst of summer sunshine in my kitchen. Ironically, I've eaten more seasonally when I was living in Egypt than anywhere else I've lived. And these mandarins, the last of my citrus fruits series, remind me of the freshness of locally grown fruits and vegetables of Egypt. The original artwork was painted with water mixable oils on cradled wood panel.
